Hello Again

Hello Humans of the internet!  If you’re the sort of person who keeps up with my blog then you might have noticed that it’s been awhile since I posted.  There are a number of reasons as to why.  Reason #1:  A mouse was living inside my computer.  An actual mouse was living inside my actual computer.  Reason #2 is because I’ve been thinking a lot about this post.

I don’t like to get political.  That’s not true.  I get political all the time.  I don’t like to get political on my blog because that’s not the purpose of this blog.  This is something that I have to say and I’ve been saying to anyone who will listen so I’m going to say it to you too.  You can choose to close this tab of you computer.  You can choose to disagree with me.  You can choose to tell me what your opinions are.  I’m no authority, I’m sure that there are smarter more knowledgeable people on this subject.  I just really wanted so say this.

As many people are aware, there is a problem in the US with violence.  I don’t know where it originated and I’m not going to point fingers.  But, you can’t deny that there is a violence problem.  Teenagers should not be constantly afraid that they will be the next victim of a school shooting.  Worshipers of any religion should not be afraid that they will be the victim of a hate crime because of their beliefs.  People should not be afraid to walk down the street in some neighborhoods because of gun violence.  People should not be afraid of the police.  People should not be afraid because of the color of their skin.

That’s why there needs to be stricter gun control.  Before you flip out, gun control doesn’t mean you can’t have a deer rifle and go hunting.  It means it is harder for you to get a deer rifle and go hunting.  It means you have to be checked out as mentally stable.  It means that if you have a record of violence, you can’t have a gun.  It means that you might have to be reevaluated regularly to make sure you are still able to have a weapon.  It might mean you can’t have an assault rifle.  I’m sure that you personally aren’t doing anything wrong.  But, if an inconvenience to you means that a kid somewhere isn’t getting shot, then it’s worth it.

It’s like getting your drivers license.  People who are bad at driving or have a history of drunk driving don’t get to drive because that creates an unsafe environment and innocent people could die.  Not having enough regulation on guns, leads to an unsafe environment and innocent people die.

Sure there’ll still be hate crimes, because our country has so much division.  That is something that should be addressed.  But, gun control could at least make it a little harder to commit hate crimes.

I would like to ask that anyone who prays is praying for the victims of violence all around the world.

Much love to all those hurting.

  1. I read a great column from an ex-Marine who said there is no reason ever for a civilian to have an assault rifle. He correctly pointed out that they are designed solely to kill people. He also demolished the idea that you could hold off a group of invaders(who aren’t heading your way anyway)by yourself. Here where 20 first graders were murdered in their classrooms, we already changed our gun laws.
